The Cliffs of Étretat: Downstream, Upstream and the Needle
The Cliffs of Étretat are undoubtedly the symbol of the town. There are two main sections, the downstream cliff and the upstream cliff, which frame the pebble beach and offer breathtaking views of the sea.
Aval cliff and the Needle
La lee cliff is the most famous, with its grand natural arch and the Needle, a chalk pinnacle that stands in the middle of the waves. Taking the path that climbs the cliff provides access to an exceptional viewpoint. At low tide, it is even possible to discover the Man's Hole, a cavity carved into the rock, and to walk along the foot of the Alabaster Coast cliffs.
The Falaise d'Amont and the Notre-Dame de la Garde Chapel
On the other side of the bay, the upstream cliff abrite la chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde, un petit édifice posé face à la mer. La montée offre une vue magnifique sur toute la baie d’Étretat et sur la falaise d’aval. C’est l’un des plus beaux endroits pour profiter du panorama et prendre quelques photos pendant votre visite.
The beach and the centre of Étretat
Between the two cliffs stretches the pebble beach, bordered by the seafront. On this beach, you can take a break, observe the comings and goings of the waves, or simply enjoy the sun facing the sea.
